I run InferHaven, a privacy and local-first AI research studio, solo and in the open. The two products are Bulkhead, a self-hostable AI coding server you run on hardware you control, and CodeTrain, a Socratic AI tutor for engineering teams that teaches developers on their own codebase. The source for Bulkhead is public.
I write here about the things that turned out to be harder than they looked: bugs a test cannot see, why code review does not survive being reproduced, and what it actually costs to keep inference off someone else's servers. Mostly first-hand, mostly with the numbers attached.
